Dr. Sharon Tharp received her Doctor of Optometry in 1983 from Indiana University. She completed externships at the Veteran’s Administration hospitals in Cleveland, OH, and Vancouver, WA, as well as Wesley-Jessen Contact Lens Company in Chicago. She practiced in Indiana, California, and Oklahoma prior to joining the practice here in 1993. She is currently on staff at Carl T. Curtis Health and Education Center in Macy, NE, and the Winnebago Hospital in Winnebago, NE. Dr. Tharp lives in Sioux City with her husband, Dr. Wing Hsieh. They have three grown children who were all very involved in music and sports at the high school level. Dr. Tharp plays the piano and violin and is a member of the First United Methodist Handbell Choir. She has also been seen on the stage at LAMB Productions and the Sioux City Community Theater. She is a former board member of the Siouxland Youth Symphony and leads the Worship Committee at church. Dr. Tharp is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Nebraska Optometric Association, and has volunteered for Opening Eyes at the Nebraska Special Olympics and the National Games. She has served on the Iowa Board of Optometry and is especially interested in fitting specialty contact lenses for those pathologies where patients cannot achieve good vision by any other means.
In 2020, Dr. Tharp retired from active practice after nearly 30 years of great care for our patients. Enjoy your retirement!
